Why We Have Certain Easter Clipart Images

Did you ever wonder how Easter transitioned from the resurrection of Jesus Christ to being about bunnies, chicks, flowers and Easter brunch? If you look at all the readily available Easter clipart, it looks like the holiday may have originated as a cooperative effort between pet stores and flower shops. But then again, I guess images of Jesus walking out of his grave would be a bit grim.

Actually, I’m a little hazy on my religious history, but I believe both Christmas and Easter began their journeys toward their current forms with Emperor Constantine, who wanted to make peace between Pagans and Christians, who were more or less equally prominent in his day. So he combined Christian traditions with Pagan celebrations of nature. The results were the birth of Christ being combined with “Christmas trees” and the resurrection getting all mixed up with bunnies, chicks and other rites of spring that the Pagans cherished. That’s why it makes me laugh when I hear some Christians say that Pagans are witches who practice devil worship.Christians got many of their traditions from the Pagans!

Oh well, I guess we have the best of both worlds. And I don’t mind at all having those cute bunnies and chicks on my Easter clipart. Given the bloody history of most religions, the imagery could certainly be worse!
