Living Quarters
Having lived with my parents for the last 22 years of my life, I had finally saved enough money or I could buy a piece of land and build my first home. When I was 16 years old I got my first job working as a tile installer, where I learned the basic trade of installing hard surface flooring. After a couple years on the job there, my boss decided he would branch out and start to do complete home remodels and even flipping houses.
Because of this I learned how to do basically most all home remodel and repair jobs. Kind of a Jack of all trades I could do things from electrical and plumbing to drywall and painting. It seemed like every week we’re in a new home remodeling either the kitchen or the bathroom, and there was this job that really made me decide that I want to build my own home instead of buying something that someone else built.

From the time I was 16 until now, I started a savings account that the money would go towards some kind of home for myself in the near future. Over the last six years am able to save about $52,000 and instead of trying to buy a house, I want to buy a piece land and build my own. So in the small town I live in, was able to find a lot that the owner would owner finance to me for $12,000.
Once I had the land, well at least was making payments on it, I got the permits I needed and proceeded to start building a small home that would accomidate me. I went through a steel building company that offered premade metal buildings at a low cost that only needed to be finished from the inside. This would save me time and even a little money. So, for less than 10,000 I had the 12 ft by 36 ft steel building put on my land and proceeded to finish out the inside.
For approximately another $8,000.00 I was able to finish out the interior, including my appliances. I built a 2 bedroom home with one bath for about 16,000.00 and did it all with cash that I had saved up. I now am 23 years old and have my entire house payed for and very minimal bills. My home is very energy efficient and I am working on having either solar panels or a wind turbine installed to help keep my living costs even lower.
